Chin Implant in Detroit, MI
If your chin or jaw is not proportionate to the rest of your facial features, your lower face may appear withdrawn and underdeveloped. For individuals who want to correct this, chin implants are an optimal solution. Birmingham Plastic Surgery, led by board-certified plastic surgeon Ahmet R. Karaca, M.D., offers chin implants for men and women who live in and around Detroit, Farmington Hills and the surrounding communities of Michigan.
What is Chin Augmentation?
Chin augmentation, also known as mentoplasty, is a surgical procedure that augments a receding chin or otherwise reshapes the jaw line.
Benefits of Chin Augmentation
A chin implant often has a powerful but subtle impact on the appearance and balance of the overall facial features. An underdeveloped chin, for example, may make a large nose appear even larger, so augmenting the chin may help to balance out the nose. In many cases, chin augmentation may be combined with rhinoplasty to fully balance these features.
What Happens During a Chin Augmentation?
Chin augmentation surgery involves the insertion of a biocompatible implant over the lower jawbone structure to increase the protrusion of the chin and jaw.
The surgical procedure takes approximately 30 minutes to one hour, and may be performed using either local anesthesia and sedation or general anesthesia. The surgery involves a very small incision located under the chin area or on the inside of the mouth along the lower lip. Dr. Karaca then creates a “pocket” in the tissue over the jawbone and positions an implant of the appropriate size and shape there. The incision is then closed, and the chin may be taped for support.
Is Chin Augmentation Right For Me?
You may be a good candidate for chin augmentation surgery if you are bothered by a receding or underdeveloped chin and want to add prominence to the chin or jaw area to balance out your facial structure. If you are considering chin augmentation, make sure you are in good physical condition and maintain realistic expectations as far as the results of your surgery.
Chin Augmentation Recovery
Following chin augmentation surgery, it is normal to experience some swelling and bruising that may initially make facial movements such as smiling and talking uncomfortable. Dietary restrictions may be required in cases where the incisions are made on the inside of the mouth. Our staff will prescribe pain medication if necessary. If surface stitches are used instead of dissolvable sutures, they will be removed after five to seven days. We recommend taking approximately one week after the chin augmentation surgery to rest before returning to work and other physical activities. After six weeks, you may return to more strenuous activities, such as sports or physical exercise.
How Much Do Chin implants Cost in Detroit?
Chin implants are not typically covered by insurance when performed as an elective surgery. Dr. Karaca makes facial surgery procedures available and affordable for all of his patients by offering flexible financing options, as well as accepting cash, major credit cards, and personal checks as payment methods.
